Alcatel-Lucent today announced that the company’s Board of Directors has appointed Kim Crawford Goodman, President of American Express Global Business Travel, as an independent director.

Ms. Goodman will replace the retiring W. Frank Blount for the remainder of his term of office, which would run until the 2014 Alcatel-Lucent general shareholders' meeting, wherein financial statements for the fiscal year 2013 will be deliberated.

The appointment of Ms. Goodman is made upon a recommendation of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee and is subject to ratification by the next Alcatel-Lucent general shareholders' meeting, scheduled to take place in Paris on May 7, 2013.

Commenting on Ms. Goodman’s appointment, Philippe Camus, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alcatel-Lucent, said: “Kim is highly regarded for her strategic vision and sharp analytic capabilities, especially in serving customers. The Board strongly believes that she will be a tremendous asset to Alcatel-Lucent, and we look forward to her contribution to our oversight of the company’s activities during this time of important transformation for the future.”

Ms. Goodman was appointed President of American Express Global Business Travel in December 2011. In this role, she oversees all aspects of the business unit’s online, offline and mobile solutions; consulting services; supplier negotiations; meetings and events services; and other innovative capabilities for corporate customers.

Ms. Goodman joined American Express as executive vice president of Merchant Services North America in 2007, and was promoted to President of Merchant Services Americas in 2010. During her time in Merchant Services, Ms. Goodman was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s relationships with merchants that accept American Express Cards in North and South America, including acquiring new merchants and deepening existing relationships. Ms. Goodman was also responsible for leading efforts across the Americas region to penetrate new industries and enhance overall merchant satisfaction.

Before being recruited by American Express, Ms. Goodman held several operating roles at Dell Inc., most recently as head of Dell’s $5 billion software and peripherals business, which included overall responsibility for product marketing, vendor management, and pricing. Ms. Goodman began her career in consulting at Bain & Company, Inc., working with telecommunications and technology clients as a partner and vice president.

Ms. Goodman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Masters of Science in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Ms. Goodman will be replacing independent director W. Frank Blount, who has decided to retire from the Board of Directors. Mr. Blount joined the Board of Directors of Alcatel in 1999 after a long career in the telecommunication industry, in particular within AT&T and the Telstra Corporation.

Philippe Camus said: “We will greatly miss Frank from the board, in particular the wisdom he brought to Alcatel-Lucent from more than 50 years in industry and, especially, telecommunications. On behalf of the entire company, we thank him for his counsel and expert guidance over the last 13 years, and wish him all the best for the future.”
