M2M connections to hit 18bn in 2022, but telco opportunity is in services

Machina Research urges operators to be careful about the sectors they target and play to their strengths to secure share of $1.2 trillion revenue opportunity.

The number of machine-to-machine connections worldwide will grow to 18 billion in 2022, but the revenue opportunity for telecoms operators lies primarily in the service wrap around those connections, Machina Research predicted this week. Connections will rise from 2 billion at the end of last year and an expected 2.4 billion at end-2012, driven by the consumer electronics and intelligent buildings sectors…
