Gintel, a leading developer of advanced application software for telecoms operators and service providers has helped Network Norway launch a new communication service offering low cost IP based calls directly from smartphones, tablets or any SIP capable device.

Network Norway’s Mobile IP service allows users to make and receive calls using a range of devices without incurring per minute roaming charges by routing calls over the Internet. This allows a customer travelling overseas to use a smartphone to call back to Norway without incurring additional cost. The Mobile IP service is part of Network Norway’s popular Mobile Office solution which provides businesses with a complete hosted PBX package.

“Our Mobile IP service is a response to demands from our increasingly mobile customers that are sensitive to unexpected roaming charges,” explains Rolf Paulsen, Head of Distribution and Marketing at Network Norway, “The support for such a wide range of SIP enabled devices combined with the simplicity of just a single mobile number irrespective of device makes Mobile IP a truly innovative service. We expect the service to be popular with existing customers and generate interest from organisations keen to integrate remote or mobile workers into a unified communication strategy.”

Mobile IP is the first service of its kind in Norway and part of a growing convergence trend across EMEA. The system uses the Gintel Easy Virtual PABX which supports full SIP and IP integration, enabling service providers and network operators to offer IP-based calling capabilities to mobile users. In addition to an integrated switchboard client, there is also a range of user-friendly clients for mobile phones, tablets, PC and Mac, ensuring the widest choice for users.

“The new Mobile IP service from Network Norway is a great example of how operators can deliver converged solutions that increase the value of existing infrastructure while recognising the demands of more mobile business users,” explains Ernst Thue, CEO of Gintel, “Our work with Network Norway has delivered a high value solution, which we believe provides a viable template for other operators exploring new ways of enhancing their respective offerings without having to expand major CAPEX in a highly competitive climate.”

Established as an R&D division of Telenor and spun-out as an independent company in 2001, Gintel has been at the forefront of IN and service innovation for over 15 years with solutions used by millions of subscribers each day. Gintel’s platform independent technology has been deployed in real networks including Orange, Tele2 and Axiata providing the assurance that its pioneering technology is rooted in practical experience. Gintel was also recently included in the prestigious Deloitte Technology Fast 500 report.
