Transmode, a global supplier of packet-optical networking solutions, today announced the evolution of the company's Native Packet Optical architecture. Native Packet Optical 2.0 combines the best of the optical and Ethernet worlds and adds significant new capabilities including MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) services, MPLS-TP and OTN transport to its already solid and proven architecture.

Transmode has been at the forefront of the rapid migration to metro and regional packet-optical solutions, which integrate Layer 2 Ethernet into the optical platforms. To date these solutions have been deployed across the globe for applications such as Switched Video Transport, mobile backhaul, business Ethernet services, GPON replacement and multi-purpose metro/metro-core infrastructure. Transmode's Native Packet Optical architecture and range of Layer 2 Ethernet Muxponders (EMXP II) have been key to the success of these deployments. The company has now extended this architecture to include new functionality across the product family.

The new Native Packet Optical 2.0 architecture extends the solutions to include MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) services, MPLS-TP[1] and OTN transport. The underlying Native Packet Optical architecture provides network operators with a packet-friendly network with industry-leading transport performance. CE2.0 compliance extends the range of standardized services available from the platform and enhances interconnect and multi-CoS capabilities. MPLS-TP adds traffic engineering, additional protection schemes and scalability. The OTN capabilities facilitate interworking with OTN networks and create a core network agnostic aggregation network.

Sten Nordell, Transmode's CTO also commented, "Native Packet Optical 2.0 marks another important milestone for Transmode. Over recent years we have anticipated this shift in the market and have built up our Ethernet capabilities accordingly. Transmode is now deploying many highly sophisticated networks that often combine our Native Packet Optical architecture with our ROADM based Flexible Optical Networking solutions and our Enlighten(TM) multi-layer management suite. It is clear that this migration to packet-optical networking will continue and Transmode is well positioned to continue to support our customers with this migration".

The new Native Packet Optical 2.0 features are all fully supported by Transmode's Enlighten multi-layer management suite. Enlighten supports point and click provisioning across all layers from Layer 0 wavelengths to Layer 2.5 MPLS-TP-based services. The suite provides powerful service and network provisioning capabilities that speed up service delivery using a powerful multi-layer Graphical User Interface to ensure full visibility of all necessary network and service parameters across layers.
