Hutchison Austria hits back at EU over Orange buy

Operator claims competition regulator fails to reflect reality of Austrian mobile market.

Hutchison 3G Austria on Monday hit back at the European Commission's objections to its planned €1.3 billion acquisition of local rival Orange. The operator's takeover bid has fallen foul of EU competition commissioner Joaquin Almunia, who is concerned that consolidation in Austria's mobile market will lead to higher prices for end users and unfavourable wholesale terms for budding virtual operators…
