Level 3 Communications, Inc. today announced the expansion of its suite of video broadcast services, Vyvx Solutions, in Latin America.

The service, which leverages Level 3's HD quality, IP fiber network, can now be contracted and managed in-region for broadcast and media customers.

Level 3’s Vyvx Solutions has been a market leader in global broadcast services for more than 20 years, and now provides broadcasters, sports organizations, studios and media companies in Latin America the ability to transmit their high-quality video content within the region or to any location in the world. To date, Level 3 has signed agreements to transmit more than 35,000 hours of video over its network for companies in the region.

“The deployment of state-of-the-art digital video broadcast technology and services is a key aspect of overall telecommunications and media infrastructure development across the Latin American region,” stated Elia San Miguel, principal research analyst at Gartner, a leading industry research firm. “Brazil, in particular, is making major infrastructure investments to prepare for the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and Olympics in 2016.”

A number of broadcast companies in the region have recently begun using Vyvx Solutions to expand their presence in Latin America and beyond, including sports broadcaster ESPN Brazil, Terra, a global digital media company and content producer and TV Azteca, one of the largest producers of Spanish-language television programming in the world.

“Having the right technical partner to transmit competitive events is very important to us because it is imperative for TV Azteca to provide quality coverage that makes our viewers feel like they are at these events,” said Pedro Carmona, director of Engineering, Special Events for TV Azteca. “We are excited about having the ability to broadcast a 100 percent fiber optic-based transmission for the first time.”

“Level 3 is proud to now offer Vyvx Solutions to customers in Latin America and across the world that are seeking to expand their presence in Latin America in order to meet their ever-growing, end-to-end broadcast video delivery needs,” said Leonardo Barbero, Level 3’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer and for Latin America. “We look forward to building upon our existing customer base by offering scalable, flexible broadcasts via satellite and fiber optic networks.”

Level 3´s Vyvx Solutions has a reputation and track record of excellence in the U.S. and and globally. Vyvx’s full suite of video transmission solutions can be customized for video transmissions of any type of event from various locations.
