Samsung extends mobile market lead as global phone sales slip

Global mobile phone sales reached 419 million in Q2; strong performances from Chinese vendors, but Nokia continues to disappoint at top end.

Mobile phone sales to end users fell to 419 million units globally in the second quarter of this year, a 2.3% slide compared to the year-ago quarter, according to new figures published by Gartner on Tuesday. Samsung, which became the world's largest maker of mobile handsets in the first quarter, widened its lead over the trailing pack, capturing a 21.6% share of the market thanks to selling 90.43 million devices in the quarter…
