Friday Review: Birthday bonanza

The iPhone and the U.K.'s 999 service celebrate key milestones this week.

When you're a child birthdays are a big deal. Piles of presents, cake, candles, party games, the whole nine yards. And the passage of time between birthdays feels like an eternity. It certainly seems like a long time since Apple burst onto the smartphone scene, but the firm's iPhone is still young, celebrating its fifth birthday today. According to new figures released by Strategy Analytics this week, birthing the iPhone proved to be a highly lucrative exercise for Apple. The analyst firm calculates that Apple has made US$150 billion in revenues from the smartphone range since it first hit the shelves in the U.S. on 29 June 2007…
