An evening out in telecoms includes monsters, talking cows, Tron, and the power of networks.
This week I had a surreal experience. After a hard day in the office, I found myself in a small, dark room decorated to look like a London Underground train carriage watching a 3-D video presentation from U.K. celebrity Stephen Fry and half a dozen flying Monster Munch.
OK, admittedly, the last part isn't strictly true. I misheard. The monsters in question turned out not to be the corn-based character snacks I remember fondly from the 1980s, but rather Moshi Monsters, virtual pets from a social network designed for children under the age of 12. According to Fry, the monsters are valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, so you'd think I would have heard of them…
