Will Motorola be back on the market, without its patents, in the near future as Google seeks to sidestep the 'spectre of Symbian'?

After several weeks of virtual silence on the newswires, the ghost town that is August in the telecoms sector sprang into life with the revelation that Google plans to pay $12.5 billion for Motorola Mobility. And the industry has talked about little else since. Motorola's patent portfolio has been the focus of much of the commentary. And indeed, listening to the companies' (not Googarola or similar, please) analyst call on Monday it quickly became clear that the Internet's giant's prime motivation is protectionism: On completion of the deal, "we'll be in a very good position to protect the Android ecosystem," said Google CEO Larry Page... just one of the numerous times he used the 'P' word during the call.
