Friday Review: Virtualise my love

As telcos continue to invest in cloud-based services, we ask if flexible, scalable parenting is the next big thing.

'Cloud services' have been everyone's favourite buzz words in the telecoms space for some time now, and the concept is starting to spread. In the U.K., for example, we effectively have 'motoring-as-a-service', with a number of vehicle manufacturers offering the use of a car, insurance, roadside assistance and warranty for a fixed monthly fee. But a few drinks with esteemed industry colleagues last night gave birth to a whole new cloud concept: Dad-as-a-service (DaaS). Particularly appropriate as Sunday is Father's Day in the U.K. The premise is simple: by putting Dad duties in the cloud, those offering DaaS are able to attend to more than one family at once. "I could be undermining women all over London," not just the wife, exclaimed the brains behind DaaS, who shall remain nameless for his own safety. DaaS as a concept is still in its infancy…
