Friday Review: Leading lights

Kudos to the kitmakers as we round up another week in telecoms.

"Lightbulbs were invented because candles were sh*t," British comedian Ian Moore declared to the audience at the World Vendor Awards gala dinner in London last night, midway through a highly amusing rant on the efficacy of the new generation of energy-saving bulbs. He's got a point. When technology evolves, it must also improve life for the end user. For a consumer, the environmental benefits – and any related cost-savings - of an eco-friendly lightbulb mean little if the light source it produces is inadequate. It's a message that is clearly understood by the companies that made the shortlist for the World Vendor Awards 2011, and particularly by those that came away with the trophies…
