The explosive growth of mobile data services and applications has been one of the defining industry trends of the past 12 months. While the increased uptake of mobile broadband has created a new revenue stream for mobile operators, it has also presented them with the added headache of increased mobile network congestion, as well as declining ARPU resulting from having to provide increasingly competitive flat-fee data packages. In recent months, there has been a flurry of developments in the mobile data space, with the British government announcing spectrum auctions for 2011 and ABI Research revealing that between now and 2015, mobile data usage in Western Europe and North America is set to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 42% and 55% respectively…
