Bharti Airtel warns 3G services will not come cheap

Indian operator's chairman says tariffs will need to be higher to recoup spectrum costs; shares plans for nationwide 3G coverage.

Bharti Airtel has warned that prices for its 3G services will not be cheap, particularly for its city-dwelling customers, as India's number one mobile operator looks to recoup the high cost of acquiring spectrum. Bharti's Chairman Sunil Mittal plans to charge more for access to 3G services in telecom service areas – called circles – in which the company paid a higher price for spectrum, according to a Press Trust of India story that appeared in the Hindustan Times on Sunday…
