Friday Review: Back to the... present?

Movie-related tweet demonstrates need for real journalism, France Telecom looks to the future, and this week's news highlights.

I'm not a great fan of Twitter. Admittedly I and the rest of the Total Telecom team do use the micro-blogging service to disseminate our collective telecoms industry wisdom (and to exchange pleasantries with our friends, of course), but I'm far from being an addict. If I ever get to the stage where I delude myself into believing I should be tweeting hundreds of times a day because the world needs to know what I had for breakfast or that my left big toe itches, I hope someone puts me out of my misery. But, inherently ego-centric nature aside, events on Twitter this week illustrated exactly why social networking-type sites – and the amateur pseudo-journalism they engender – will never be as good as the real thing…
