Samsung swings to Q4 profit, upbeat on outlook

Tech giant aims to boost handset profits by focusing on high-margin smartphone segment.

Samsung Electronics Co. executives on Friday said the company will aim for strong sales growth in TVs and cellphones in 2010, but it will rely on its chip business to contribute the most profit. The company, which may pass Hewlett-Packard Co. to become the world's largest technology firm by sales this year, gained share in cellphones in a depressed market in 2009 and expanded its lead in TV sales with a lucrative line of expensive, ultra-thin models. But price competition grew in TVs in the latest few months of the year…
