Iusacell 'no está a la venta', but change is coming to Mexico

Salinas claims his Mexican mobile unit is not for sale, but with change afoot it could struggle to survive alone; plus, who will buy America Movil's assets?

"It's not for sale," Ricardo Salinas told his Twitter followers on Wednesday. The Grupo Salinas founder was talking about his company's 50% stake in Mexican mobile operator Iusacell, which hit the headlines earlier this week when it emerged that Telefonica is working on a takeover offer. The Spanish incumbent did not mention Iusacell by name in a statement to the stock market regulator, but said its disclosure of "negotiations in Mexico" came as a result of media speculation; various press outlets had linked it with Iusacell. As the press eagerly discussed how such a deal would affect the Mexican mobile market, already in a state of flux as a result of regulatory moves to boost competition…
