Vimpelcom on Monday named Rene Schuster as its new chief operating officer.
Industry veteran Schuster most recently served as CEO of Telefonica Deutschland, a post he left in January. He has also worked as CEO of Adecco and as Vodafone's global marketing director, as well as holding various roles at companies including H-P, IBM and KPMG.
He replaced Jan Edvard Thygesen, who will remain with Vimpelcom to work on "designated strategic projects" until he retires in December. Schuster's appointment is effective immediately.
"Rene has an exceptional track record of achievement in telecoms and technology businesses, and we are fortunate that he will be joining us to lead our business units through the next phase in the development of Vimpelcom," company CEO Jo Lunder said in a statement.
"Vimpelcom operates in many markets where there are exciting opportunities to develop the business," Schuster said. "I am very pleased to be joining the group as we continue to develop new and innovative services for our customers and I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues."
Schuster's appointment appears to form part of a management re-organisation at Vimpelcom. In the same announcement, the Russian company said its technology chief Yogesh Malik, chief commercial officer Mikhail Gerchuk and regulatory head Romano Righetti will now report directly to Lunder.
