Vimpelcom latest telco to be investigated over Uzbekistan activities

Russian operator says it will cooperate with Uzbekistan probe; country plans to launch LTE network using spectrum formerly owned by MTS.

Vimpelcom on Wednesday revealed that its operations in Uzbekistan are the subject of an investigation by US and Dutch authorities. The Russian mobile operator said it has received a letter from the SEC informing it of the probe and requesting certain documentation. Meanwhile, Dutch authorities, including the country's public prosecutor's office, on Tuesday raided its Amsterdam office, also seizing documents and notifying it that it is the focus of a criminal investigation…
