The cloud: it's not as fluffy as you might think

A tour round a London data centre makes talk of exabytes of traffic a lot more real.

This week I set off for an event in East London, passport in hand. Now I know what you're thinking: a softie like me might get a minor nose bleed as the train leaves the City behind and heads toward the wilds of the east end, but it's hardly foreign enough to require a passport. What I probably should have mentioned is that my destination was Docklands, the London site of data centre giant Telehouse, to be precise. And funnily enough, security is pretty tight. Once inside the facility though, some of Telehouse's customers - it serves telcos, content companies, enterprises…
