Taking a walk on the wild side

Texting while walking becomes officially dangerous, but probably less risky than being a handset maker.

As species go, human beings are incredibly talented. We can do amazing things like cure diseases, journey through space, and build networks that carry vast amounts of information around the world at lightning-fast speeds. However, if you ask me to compose a text message while I'm out for a walk, there is an increased risk that I will bump into someone, walk into a tree, fall down a well, step on a bear trap, or stumble through a hole in the time-space continuum and end up back in the Stone Age, which would be a total hassle. It's not just my problem though. It's yours as well, because scientists this week proved that when humans try to combine walking with reading and/or writing text messages…
