Portugal's Zon abandons set-top box as TV watching moves to cloud

TV and Internet provider says it will invest in the network, rather than in CPE, to support change in TV viewing habits; reports strong interest in Timewarp function.

Personal video recorder (PVR) set-top boxes are little more than an ″expensive brick″, said Portuguese Internet and TV provider Zon on Tuesday, indicating that it plans to move all customer premises equipment (CPE) functionality into the cloud.
