Nokia cuts 2010 margin outlook on Symbian delay, smartphone competition

Gartner warns Finnish device maker's smartphone range falling behind Apple, Android.

Nokia on Thursday lowered its 2010 margin guidance after delaying the rollout of its new Symbian 3 operating system amid intensifying competition in the smartphone market. "The delay to Symbian 3 is absolutely the key to why Nokia cut its [operating] margin outlook," commented Carolina Milanesi, Gartner's research vice president for mobile devices. She explained to Total Telecom that until Nokia unveils high end devices running on its new platform it will have to rely increasingly on its range of ageing smartphones…
