iPass Inc., a leading global provider of mobile connectivity, today announced that it has partnered with Reliance Communications, India's leading truly integrated telecommunications service provider with a customer base of more than 118 million. Under this planned multi-phase partnership, Reliance customers will have access to iPass’ global network of 50 million Wi-Fi hotspots, located in airports, hotels, airplanes, restaurants and other public areas.

The service will provide a simple and cost-effective way for Reliance customers to have unlimited access to data while traveling abroad. Reliance customers can connect to the iPass network through a single log-on, enabling users to access secure global Wi-Fi via smartphones, tablets and laptops. It is estimated that there are 14 million international travelers from India every year, creating a high demand for iPass’ convenient and affordable global Wi-Fi service.

These services will be available this quarter to all Reliance customers that have a smartphone, tablet or laptop that supports Wi-Fi. No longer will customers need to subscribe to an expensive international cellular roaming plan or pay a security deposit for international connectivity. Once the service is activated on a customer’s device through the iPass app, the customer will be able to access Wi-Fi via iPass hotspots in more than 100 countries around the world.

“We’re excited that Reliance Communications has partnered with iPass to connect its customers globally,” said Gary Griffiths, president and CEO of iPass. “This is only the beginning of what Reliance and iPass believe is an unprecedented opportunity. With nearly one of every five people on the planet living in India, we are delighted to take the first step in an initiative that we hope will eventually help the Indian sub-continent interconnect through Wi-Fi.”

“We are delighted to offer our customers access to iPass’ global Wi-Fi network,” said Gurdeep Singh, CEO of Consumer Business at Reliance Communications. “We see this as the beginning of a journey that will have exciting opportunities not only to connect our customers as they travel globally, but also expand the backbone for connecting people and intelligent devices of all kinds across India.”
