ITS Technology Group were one of the successful finalists of the Broadband Pioneer category at the 2016 World Communication Awards. We asked them what it takes to succeed against the competition.

TT: Please tell us in your own words why ITS Technology Group is a Broadband Pioneer and specifically what your WCA entry was about.
Our entry was about our network in Knowsley. Until June 2015 no one on Knowsley Business Park had any type of robust broadband. Some of the businesses were running on 2Mbps so our new service has vastly improved their ability to utilise hosted services and speed up their business communications. The area had been under serviced for many years due to lack if investment.

TT: It is a huge achievement to be a WCA finalists. Why do you think your entry appealed to the judges of the World Communication Awards?
Our network has genuinely helped local businesses and also helped bridge the digital divide. Some of the businesses couldn’t work effectively with their global offices or upgrade their systems until we built the new network. In addition, a local housing association was also able to benefit from the network and provide their tenants access to online services.

TT: How does ITS differ from its competitors?
We focus on looking at the specific needs of businesses and communities. We design, build and operate, technology agnostic networks to get the best solution for that specific location. We are then able to provide other value added services such as telephony and managed services, that can only be taken advantage of once there is a stable high-speed network in place.

TT: How have you judged success? Are there specific KPI’s by which you measure success?
Our first success is the build of a robust and sustainable network that is stable and vastly improves the broadband service that properties are able get. We always seek to improve their customer experience and work with them to tailor our additional services for their specific requirements so that we are focused on building long term relationships.

TT: What's next for ITS?
We will continue to build networks, whether it will be open access wholesale networks or smaller more exclusive networks in hard to reach places. Where applicable we will also continue to provide additional hosted services so that businesses can continue to gain competitive advantage and communities are more sustainable.

TT: Why did you choose to enter the WCA, what does making the shortlist mean to your organisation?
It is prestigious international award that recognises telecom companies from many countries. Being shortlisted against other successful organisations was an honour.
